The protective padding (cushion) of the shoulder pad is made of open cell foam. Within the foam are thousands of tiny air cells. By adhering the outer fabric to the foam, a sealed environment is created trapping the air inside of the cushion. When an outside force is exerted on to the shoulder pad shell (load spreader), the force causes the shell to push on the cushion, forcing the air to move within the cells of the foam out 360 degrees, thereby lessening the blow from being felt straight in to the point of impact. There is a much wider area of dispersion, resulting in less trauma to the body.
Since 1986, the professionals at Douglas have worked one-on-one with customers to help them select the right pads and best options for their needs. Our goal is to outfit each player with a pad that allows him to compete at his highest level.
Based on the position you play and your individual style of playing, we can help you select a pad that's designed to enhance your performance, yet provides the ultimate in protection.
Whether you're an equipment manager or a college or high school player wanting to excel at your game, the trained professionals at Douglas can help you select the ultimate shoulder pad.
To size your Standard Series shoulder pad, please follow these instructions as close as possible. Using a flexible tape, measure ( in inches ) straight across the players back from shoulder tip to shoulder tip, as seen in the illustration below. DO NOT measure up and over the neck and neck muscles for your measurement. Use the corresponding size chart to arrive at the size of shoulder pad you are ordering.
